Learning Beyond The Classroom

14 July 2024 - Initiated by Sir Allan Filipov along with the guidance of Sir Robert Shoup, the field trip had participants of students from University Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia and University College London (UCL) who went around outcrops in Selangor with Kenny Hill Formation. Two geophysics students representing geophysics USM, Chan Xian Hwa and Hana Birrah Zaini, joined this field trip. The outcrops are interesting. The field trip found black shale with laminated sheets. Some of the formations show a curvy structure of water flow. Petrified wood in the formation was also observed. The deposition environments are mostly deltaic, with different depositional settings and timing.
