FESEM-EDX-EBSD Workshop
5 September 2024 - The FESEM-EDX-EBSD Workshop, organized by Nano-optoelectronics Research & Technology Lab School of Physics, USM, was successfully held on the 5th of September 2024. The event was supported by Thermo Fisher Scientific and Oxford Instruments, both leaders in providing high-quality scientific instruments and equipment for material characterization.
The primary focus of the workshop was to provide training on advanced material characterization techniques, specifically:
1. FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy): A high-resolution imaging technique used to study the surface structure and morphology of materials.
2. EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy): A technique integrated with FESEM for elemental analysis and chemical characterization of materials.
3. EBSD (Electron Backscatter Diffraction): A method used to determine crystallographic information in materials.
The speakers, Ms. Chatnapa Intanont from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Thailand, provided in-depth technical guidance on using the FESEM system and Dr. Wu Jiang from Oxford Instruments, Singapore, delivered expertise on EBSD techniques and their applications in material science research.
The workshop gathered a diverse group of participants including lecturers, postgraduate students, and researchers from the School of Physics. The FESEM-EDX-EBSD workshop successfully met its objectives, providing comprehensive training and fostering collaboration between academia and industry. It marked a step forward in equipping the School of Physics community with cutting-edge skills for their research projects.
