USM School of Physics Lecturer Honoured with Gold Award at ITeLIC 2025
Pulau Pinang, 24 September 2025 – Dr. Nik Noor Ashikin Bt Nik Ab Razak from the School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has won the Gold Award at the International Teaching Enhancement & Learning Innovation Carnival (ITeLIC 2025), hosted by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. The award was officially announced on 3 September 2025. Her innovation, titled “MIX: Medical Instrumentation for X-Ray Systems (MOOC Course)”, triumphed in Category A: MOOC & Micro-Credentials Innovation, which recognizes impactful online learning solutions.
About the Project
MIX MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course that provides structured, flexible, and engaging education on radiation and X-ray instrumentation. The course includes six interactive modules, gamified assessments, reflective learning, and a virtual lab tour filmed at the USM Biophysics Laboratory. The course has already enrolled over 115 learners worldwide, including members of the public, radiation workers, allied health professionals, and medical doctors, all of whom provided positive feedback.

ITeLIC is a prestigious national platform that celebrates innovation in teaching and learning across higher education, schools, and professional training. The competition featured multiple categories ranging from MOOC development to STEM innovation, with entries from universities and institutions across Malaysia. By winning the Gold Award, Dr. Nik Noor Ashikin has showcased USM’s leadership in technology-enhanced medical education, highlighting the scalability, inclusivity, and sustainability of digital healthcare training.
