Invited Seminar and Research Discussion on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

27th January 2026 - The School of Physics at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) successfully hosted an Invited Seminar and Research Discussion on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy on January 26, 2026, featuring an invited talk by Professor Dr. Hoeil Chung from Hanyang University, Korea, and current Chairman for Asian NIR Consortium. The seminar highlighted cutting-edge research on hyperspectral near-infrared spectroscopy, including high-throughput analysis and the application of convolutional autoencoder-based feature extraction from spectroscopic data, offering valuable insights into data-driven spectroscopic analysis.

The event was further enriched by the participation of researchers and academics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), as well as representatives from Applied Agricultural Resources Sdn. Bhd., fostering meaningful discussions and strengthening inter-institutional collaboration between academia and industry.

An engaging research discussion session followed, covering:
🔹 An overview of Asian Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) Consortium activities
🔹 Malaysia’s interest in joining the consortium
🔹 Potential collaboration and future research planning
We sincerely thank Professor Dr. Hoeil Chung and all participants, and we look forward to continued collaboration and impactful research ahead.
