Geophysics USM Strengthens International Academic Collaboration Through “Climate Data Analysis Using Python” Workshop in Aceh
Aceh, 24 April 2026 – The Geophysics Group, School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to expand its international academic collaboration network through its involvement in the “Climate Data Analysis Using Python” workshop organized by the Bachelor of Geophysical Engineering Programme, Department of Earth Engineering, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
The program, held at Balee Mu’asyarah, Faculty of Engineering, USK, brought together 40 students physically, alongside up to 50 participants attending online. The workshop provided exposure to students on the use of the Python programming language for systematic and data-driven climate data analysis.
The workshop was conducted by a representative from the Geophysics Group, School of Physics, USM, Dr. Syarawi Mohd Husni Mohd Sharoni, who was invited as the instructor to share expertise in climate data analysis using Python. Throughout the training sessions, participants were guided to analyze one climate parameter as a structured exercise before being given the opportunity to independently explore another parameter through a hands-on approach.
This approach aims to strengthen students’ understanding not only from a theoretical perspective but also in practical skills related to processing and interpreting climate data, in line with current demands in Earth science and climate change studies.
USM’s involvement in this program reflects its continued commitment to contributing to student capacity development, not only for local participants but also at the international level, while further strengthening academic ties with regional institutions.
