USM-Optosky Collaboration Center Planned as Southeast Asia Hub for Spectroscopy Technology
On 23 April 2026, the School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), welcomed a delegation from Optosky Photonics Inc., marking a significant step toward establishing the School of Physics as a regional hub for spectroscopy technology demonstration and verification in Southeast Asia.
The Optosky delegation was led by Dr. Liu Hongfei, Chief Executive Officer, and included Mr. Jansen Liang, Project Manager, and Dr. Ding Kai, R&D Manager. The visit aimed to further strengthen ongoing discussions and support preparations for the 1st Malaysia Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Meeting (MNIRSM 2026).
A major highlight of the visit was Optosky’s plan to develop the School of Physics, USM, as its Southeast Asia hub for technology demonstration and verification. This proposed collaboration center will support application development, customer training, and technology validation across the region. The initiative is currently being formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and is planned for gradual implementation over the next three years. In addition, both parties explored potential research collaborations, instrumentation support, and laboratory development. The engagement also included knowledge exchange on advanced spectroscopic technologies and discussions on future joint research and funding opportunities.
This visit reflects the shared commitment of USM and Optosky Photonics Inc. to advancing research, innovation, and industry collaboration in spectroscopy, while strengthening Malaysia’s position in the regional scientific landscape.
