STEAM FEST 2026

The School of Physics at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) proudly participated in STEAMFest 2026, hosted by Tenby Schools Penang at its Tanjung Bungah campus on Saturday, 25 April 2026. Now in its sixth year, STEAMFest has become a vibrant annual platform that brings together students, parents, teachers, and the wider community for a morning of hands-on learning across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

This year’s theme, Life Competencies for the Future, inspired participants to explore skills and knowledge that bridge the past and present — linking foundational scientific principles to practical, real-world applications. The free-entry event welcomed between 500 and 800 visitors from government and international schools, industry partners, government agencies, universities, and the broader Tenby community across Penang.

USM fielded two teams from the School of Physics, each presenting a distinct hands-on activity. Dr. Idahwati binti Sarudin’s team ran “Young Astronomer: Sky Bound” — a dual-method astronomy workshop that bridges ancient star charts and modern digital tools. Dr. Beh Khi Poay’s team presented “Fun with Snap Circuits” — an interactive workshop introducing participants of all ages to the fundamentals of electrical circuits through hands-on building.
