Academic Staff from USM School of Physics Tour Schott Glass Malaysia, Prai.

Prai, 26 August 2026 – Academic staff from the School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) visited Schott Glass Malaysia in Prai as part of ongoing efforts to deepen academia-industry collaboration, following the earlier visit of Dr. Steffen Koehler, Vice President of R&D and NPI (Augmented Reality), to School of Physics, USM in July.

The visit provided academic staff with a comprehensive tour of the Augmented Reality department’s production site, where they were introduced to advanced industrial processes and equipment, including deposition systems, glass processing technologies, and precision metrology instruments. This engagement offered valuable insights into state-of-the-art manufacturing practices and underscored the importance of aligning academic research with industry requirements. The exposure is expected to enrich teaching, research, and talent development initiatives at USM, particularly through the Industry in Classroom Program, industrial internships and recruitment opportunities, while opening new avenues for collaborative projects in optics and materials science for augmented reality applications.

The visit reflects USM’s commitment to fostering impactful partnerships with industry leaders, reinforcing the bridge between academia and industry, and advancing innovation in line with current technological developments.
